Jo Cattell has worked in theatre and television in the UK, Germany, France, Canada and the USA. Jo’s main focus has been on developing new work. She is currently in residence with The Playground Theater at the City of Chicago’s Cultural Center, with the Department of Culture and Special Events.
She is currently working on her short film BLOOD CLOT, and a feature called BLOOD. Jo is also working with a dandypunk and Darin Basile on HEARTCORPS, a new theatrical experience within a projection mapped graphic novel world. She recently wrote and co-directed three music videos for DON CHIPOTLE. She has worked with numerous theatre’s in her current home of Chicago, including The Goodman, Route 66, FWD Theatre Project, Pride Films and Plays, and the Irish Theatre of Chicago and is Resident Director at terraNOVA Collective, NYC. She is currently an artist in residence with The Playground Theater at the City of Chicago’s Cultural Center with the Department of Culture and Special Events. She recently directed Juan Villa’s new play, DON CHIPOTLE, for production at the Storefront Theater, downtown Chicago and is now working with Villa to develop the play into a webseries. She is also working with Isaac Gomez on his play LA RUTA, which recently received a workshop at Oregon Shakespeare Festival and was part the Goodman Theatre’s Latino Festival 2016. Jo directed WILL WORK FOR by Dacyl Acevedo, which performed across the US winning numerous awards; was Script Consultant on RADIANT BABY, the Keith Haring musical for The Public Theatre, NYC; directed FOR LOVE by Loaisa Sexton for the 1st Irish Theatre Festival in NYC, which was then performed at the Irish Rep, NYC, before touring Ireland. In Las Vegas; she co-founded BNTA, a non-profit theatre company, and worked as Acting Coach for Cirque du Soleil on their award winning production of The Beatle’s LOVE. In the UK, Jo developed and directed SKYSCRAPING by Tim Stimpson for Net Curtain Theatre Company, which premiered at London’s Soho Theatre Studio and was then transferred to the Southwark Playhouse; assisted Theresa Heskins on Tony nominated playwright, Bryony Lavery’s PRECIOUS BANE, for Pentabus Theatre. Whilst at the BBC. Jo co-wrote and directed sketch comedy. She also directed the first digital art installation, 18:1-7, for Canterbury Cathedral (Mother Church of the worldwide Anglican Communion) with C2atelyst Productions. She also worked with Sky Television on a series of award-winning documentaries about famous soccer players, David Beckham, Michael Owen, Dwight Yorke and Jaimie Redknapp.
On the producing side, her experience has included working for SFX Theatricals, Clear Channel Entertainment, and NAMCO, on shows such as Fosse, Chicago the Musical, Tap Dogs, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and Bombay Dreams.
