A visit from two strangers exposes a 37-year-old secret in this play about the long and devastating repercussions of Argentina’s “Dirty War.”
Written as a companion play to THE MADRES.
The play asks how one goes on when their entire life is thrown into question by a terrible betrayal. How does one continue after discovering their entire life is a lie? We watch as she struggles to find a way to accept the truth and figure out who she is in the face of everything she has lost. We watch the people around her fight to stay in her life, to stay above the surface and as they cling to their own personal truth and hope. The Abuelas incorporates moments of magical realism and heightened theatricality while exploring the heart’s capacity for forgiveness even in the face of the harshest betrayal. It asks, what would you do?
